Region’s third known Amazon Fresh grocery store coming to Troy
The region’s third Amazon Fresh grocery store concept is believed to be under construction in Troy.
Permits and site plans obtained from the city through a Freedom of Information Act request show a layout and design similar to other Amazon Fresh stores around the country, including locations Crain’s previously first reported in the spring in Shelby Township in a former Gander Outdoors and Rochester Hills in a former Best Buy.
While “Amazon Fresh” is not named in any of the documents, the drawings strongly suggest it’s the tenant for the space.
In addition, one of the documents says that “all work is subject to inspection and review at any time by Amazon.”
The store at 662 E. Big Beaver Road was until last year an AirTime trampoline location that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. City documents say the space is about 39,500 square feet and that construction is expected to cost $3.75 million.
A spokesperson for Amazon declined comment earlier this week.
Emails and voicemails were left with the property’s owner, New York City-based RPT Realty (formerly Farmington Hills-based Ramco-Gershonson Property Trust); contractor, Clarkston-based DZI Construction Services Inc.; and architect, NORR LLC, which has an office in downtown Detroit.
Bloomberg reported in March that Amazon has opened 11 of its grocery stores and has at least 28 more in the works around the country.
The article cited an anonymous source as saying that the company used the density of Amazon Prime members per ZIP code to help target locations for Amazon Fresh.
